■ AGAINST CONSCRIPTION. [PER PH USS ASSOCIATION. —COPYRIGHT.] (Received This Day at 9.50. a.m.) ■LONDON, 'April 8. The “Daily Chronicle” says we learn that Government, in anticipation of an Irish settlement, propose to include in the new Military Service Bill their intention to extend conscription at some unspecified date. This is a seriou., blunder, and will assuredly blast the fair promising home reconciliation he-
tween Ireland and England. Government will incur a terrible responsibility, wrecking the Convention’s work. It is true Ireland’s exemption from the Act of 1916 was an anomaly, and if conscription ■ accompanied Home Rule, objection to an Irish Parliament would be mitigated, but this reasoning ignores the realities. The Home Rule Act did not become operative in 1914. There are signs that the Sinn Rein movement is s on the down grade. It is the bounden duty of Government to promptly adopt the Convention’s recommendations. Conscription must not be mingled with Home Rule,
SINN FEIN VIEW. (Received This Dav at. 10.15. a.m.) LONDON April 8. De Valera in a speech at Tullamorc said tbe Irish people must unite to a man to resist conscription. It would be better to die for Ireland than for Flanders. •
