GERMAN REPORT ATTACKS ON TIIE LEFT. LONDON. April 7, 11.45 p.m. A wireless German official message states: —After a violent artillery bombardment the Anglo-French attacked in the vicinity of the Ancre and Avrc. English masses collapsed northward of Beaumont Hamel and also before, the bridgehead position at Albert. The French vainly stormed positions between Castel and Maillv and east of Tliorv and also near Cantigny. Five times the French attacked near Mesnil. All the attacks broke down.
(After desperate hand to hand fight, iiig we crossed the marshes of the Oise aid then stormed the suburbs of Chauny. We also took positions nenr Amignv and the north-eastern portion of a country wood. . ' Wo took prisoners of over 1400. Wo downed 18 aeroplanes.
AN ADVANCE 1 REPORTED. LONDON, April 8. Tlie latest wireless German official message states: “We captured Pierremanle and Folembray. (Folembray is aboilt ten miles southwest of Chauny, on the Aisne, where the Germans claim to hold the suburbs).'
