Private L. A. Denis, reported ill, severe, is a member of a well known Ross family.
Second-Limit. L. M. Hughes reported killed in action is the oldest son of -Mr Hughes the well-known artist for many years residents of Hokitika.
Mr John Giose, of Hokitika, has been advised that his brother, Prim to James Giese had been admitted to an English hospital on April 3rd, suffering from a gunshot wound in the left shoulder. Private Giese was a welllocal painter in Hokitika before enlisting.
Mr and Mrs IV. R. Kettle, of Greymouth, received word yesterday that their nephew Percy, youngest son of Mr and Mrs. S. Munson, for many years residents of Kainta, and nof of Napier, had been killed in action .at the front . s
The many friends of All- and Mrs Condon, South Beach, will regret to learn that their son Rifleman, W, F. Condon, lias been wounded in the hip in the recent fighting ,at Ayette, in France. This line lad is noiv lying dangerously ill in hospital in France.
Trooper R. G. Gibb reported missing, is a son of Mr Edward Gibb of Waikukupa, and is well known throughout South Westland as n worthy son of a sterling pioneer. He was with the British troops in Palestine.
Mr and Mrs G. Old, Aratika, have received advice that their son. Private Harry Ord had been admitted to hospital in England on March 28, suffering from severe gunshot wounds in the left arm and side. Before, enlisting Private Ord was engaged in the sawmilling industry.
Private C. Caliari, reported wounded, not severe, is a son of Mr and Mrs Caliari, well knowm residents of Kanieri. They have been advised that he had been admitted to a hospital in France on March 30th, suffering from a gunshot wound in the left thigh.
■ In a letter received from his son Horace, by Mr. Tims Fitzsimmons, the former records how his company were caught in the open by a German shell which struck him on the leg, practically severing it below the knee. On arrival at a field hospital the leg was taken off below the knee, but later at a base hospital it was found necessary to further amputate the leg above the knee. Tho young man speaks highly of the treatment received in tho several hospitals in France and England and pays a tribue to the splendid work of the nurses. The soldier is expect teil to return to New Zealand about July next.
