AMUSEMENTS.

PEERLESS PICTURES. “THE GREATER LAW.”

A special five-act Blue Bird photo, play which features four great stars, Myrtle Gonzalez. George Hernandez, Gretchen Lederer. and Laurence Benton, supported bv a powerful caste, will head the all new display to be presented at the Princess Theatre to-night (Wednesday) entitled “ The Greater Law,” in five big acts. The press of the centres proclaim “ The Greater Law” to be the most powerful and greatest movie ever screened, as record business has been reported wherever the film has been screened. Myrtle Gonzalez, George Hernandez, Gretchen Lederer, and Laurence Benton, led the Reynolds Company through snow feet deep operating in the vicinity of California, with peaks of the Sierres, clothed in frost and flicked with scattering fir trees and evergreens. The camera has caught some beautiful sights of a series of exciting episodes, reflecting the strenuous life in an Alaskan mining camp. There are but few interiors and these are used to represent sensational events that transpire in a combination dance hall saloon and hotel at a time when.the Klondyke seethed with the highest pitch of excitement in the first days of the 'rush for gold. The supporting programme will include “ Hutton of Headquarters,” drama, “Silly Sultan,” comic, and our Weekly Gazette, while the music will be of the usual high order.

POLLARD’S PICTURES, “ GRAUSTARK ” THURSDAY. George Barr McCutcheon’s great novel, ‘‘'Graustark ” picturised in a marvellous six-act play with the favourite star artists, Francis X. Bushman and Beverly Bayne, in the leading roles, and “The -Name and the Game,” the 4tli chapter of “ The Iron Claw,” screened to music by Bollard’s orchestra will be the attraction at Princess Theatre to-morrow (Thursday) evening by Pollard’s Pictures. “ Graustark,'’ is well known to lovers of George Barr McCuteheon’s very successful and wide-world story of the rich American globe trotter who makes the acquaintance of a Graustark lady in Paris and later finds in her a Princess. The play is very reminiscent of “ Rupert of Henzeau ” and “ Three Weeks.” Never before has Francis Bushman been seen to such great advantage. In the desperate chases across the continent and the sensational fights for the safety of the Princess he excels himself. He is ably supported by Beverly Bayne as the Princess. The supporting picture is the 4th chapter of “ The Iron Claw ” entitled “ The Name and the Game.” This more than attractive chapter carries the secret one step further on and gives patrons another opportunity of trying to pick the identity of the “Laughing Mask.” As stated above, Pollai’d’s Orchestra will pay Hokitika a visit and play the overtures and incidental music to this great programme.
