OTIRA TUNNEL STRIKE.

A SETTLEMENT PROBABLE. (By Telegraph.—Special to Guardian CHRISTCHURCH March 27. A delegation from Otira Tunnel introduced by Mr Witty M.P., saw the Minister of Public Works, and as a result an early settlement of the strike is expected on the lines of the men returning to work unconditionally next week, after which the Minister will meet the workers personally, and discuss their grievances. Ho has no objection to. the men at such a conference, being represented, by outside help, and Mr Hiram Hunter, and Mr Witty M.P., with probably the Christchurch gentlemen who spoke at to-day’s deputation being asked to assist. The delegates return to Otira to-morrow to lay the position before the men.

A favourable result is expected with considerable confidence.
