EVENT IN I'TLL SWING

This nfternon .Surprise Packet, Day will lie in lull swing at the Town Hall, During the morning some hundreds of Parcels were transferred from the Don depot to the hall, and placed in position neadv lor distribution. Provision is undo lor a busy afternoon and evening. and there is an excellent range of gift parcels, with ia line variety* of goods of all description. T’hc day is devoted to helping the patriotic funds which contribute to the comfort of the men at the front. On this subject the Bishop of Newcastle lias said:— “We watch our young fellows pass out to the trenches to face bullet and shell and noisoinms fumes l-Ttr our safely. They take our lives and property in trust and go out and die cheerfully for the idea of national security.'" What claims have 1 on them that they have not on me? Can I ever again sit down idly and forget; the obligation I have contracted.;” The present monster benefit affords an opportunity to all to repay in some small way the obligation incurred. The result should he a substantial credit balance to the fund. At the Don depot to-day. there is a tasteful floral display of cut bloomr made by Mr A. B. Boyd. The Do" will be open to-day for, the sale of envelopes for the Surprise Packets. These will ho on sale also at the Town Tin 1 1 The Town Hall will lie open thiafternoon from 3 to % o’clock for tindistribution of parcels, and, again , tonight for an hour from 7 to 8 for thdelivery and sale of all unclaimed parcels.
