[peh press association. —copyright.] FIRE IN WAIHi MINE. WAIHI, This Day. An outbreak of fire occurred last evening in No. 9 (plan) level, ol Waihi mine. The timber was. particularly dry and the fire spread rapidly along the level and up two timbered rises in the vicinity. The fire was checked within a few hours of the outbreak. Men on the shift fought the fire gallantly throughout the night. ; The fire was confined to a small area] and is not regarded as serious, One of the horses Underground was suffocated owing to the dense smoke spreading throughout the workings. Work in the mine was temporarily suspended. UNDER CONTROL, AUCKLAND, This' Day. The local office of the Wailii Company is advised that the fire in the mine is well under control.
