AN UNSATISFACTORY REPORT
(Received This Day at 9.50. a.m.) LONDON, March 7.
Kon T. MieNamara announced that three national shipyards had been established for assembling standard ships. He could promise thirty-four ships, and hoped all would be completed in twelve months. The first keel would be laid in April and they would launch the first ship in October. Governments anticipations regarding tfie numbers of men to lie released from the army for shipbuilding has not yet been realised. SHIPBUILDERS PROTEST. LONDON, "March 7 The Chamber of Shipping moved a resolution which was carried regretting the unsatisfactory progress of commercial shipbuilding due to the taking of the initiative out of the hands of private owners. The numbers of standardised ships produced in the year, did not equal the sinkings for, a fortnight. - |
