IN MILITARY APPEAL COURT. “ YOU GOT THE PET.” Wellington, March 2 Mr W. T. Young (secretary to the Federated Seamen’s Union) appeared before the Third Wellington Military Service Board yesterday in support of the adjourned appeals of Frederick G. McLean and . Richard Hoey (firemen, of Lyttelton and Wellington respectively). , Mr Young said that at the previous hearing .a police report was presented showing that out of a period of 172 days McLean had spent 87 days ashore." He had discharges, however, which showed that since March 16th, 1917, McLean had spent 244 days at. sea and 92 only ashore. He complained that on the previous occasion the hoard had refused him a.n opportunity of putting the case in defence of the man.

The chairman (Mr 1). M Findlay) : “ You seemed to have no facts to put before the board.” Mr Young: “Yon wouldn’t allow me to put them.” ' The chairman: “Mr Young, you were not prevented by the board from having every reasonable chance of putting your case before the board. Had yon these particulars then ? ” Mr Young: “Yes; but you interrupted me.” Mr Findlay : “ I interrupted you, and you got the pet.” Mr Young: “I didn’t get the pet at all.” ' The chairman : “ That is all we want to bear about it, Mr Young.” In reply to Captain Baldwin, Mr Young stated that the discharges showed that during the period of 172 days covered by the police report, McLean was 78, not 87 days ashore, as stated by the police. The board bad reserved its decision. The case of Hoey was adjonrned indefinitely, subject to bis remaining in his present occupation.
