CORRESP O NDE N C E.

IN EXPLANATION

(Td the Editor)Sir, —I noticed in a recent issue of vour newspaper, a reply to a correspondent. who apparently wanted to know what would hoppe-n if a man died without making a Will. Your reply thereto was correct. But many people liave the idea that if a man dies without a will, the Public Trustee must of course take charge of the estate. This is erroneous, and the relatives of the deceased) or a creditor, or anyone showing a right, may obtain administration. Furthermore every estate put in the hands of the Public Trustee must pay a commission varying according to value, whereas otherwise no commission lifted he charged. In numerous instances, I know' that persons entitled to administer would have preferred to administer estates themselves rathei than allow) them to he dealt with by the Public Trust Office.—T am^etc.
