LATE LOCALS.
Last. Friday night, says the Westport News, Airs Athol Tomkies lias a very unenviable experience on (he Ngaliawau Bridge. Just, on eiglil o’clock, she was about midway over the bridge with two children in a perambulator, on her wav to a picture show, when the train delayed from \ p.m. until 6 p.m. at Westport on account of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s Show, pul in its appearance. Airs Tomkies made a hurried run, pushing the pram, for the end of the bridge, but finding she (tould not escape the oncoming train, she snatched the youngsters out of the pram and thus saved them from what appeared to he certain death. The pram was caught hv the engine and damaged. Airs Tomkies took some time, to recover from the shock of the thrilling escape.
