CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 12,
At the monthly meeting of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, held yes terday afternoon, an invitation was received from the .Mayor of ChristchuKch for representatives of the Chamber to attend tho meeting t* lie bald to-moi-r#iw evening in the C ity Council Chamber, in connexion with the agitation for completing the Otira tunnel. The, mem bers of the Council were asked to attend.
The report on the visit to the Otira tunnel was read and adopted, a hearty vote of thanks being accorded to tlio committee which had the matter in hand. Among the suggestions made in the report were: That a large public meeting to be held to urge tlie Government to complete tlio tunnel; that tlie T\ o R Const Chamber be asked to hold similar meetings; that tlie Cantoibiit.v Chamber keep Hilly in touch with tlie West Coast Chambers; that on all occasions when Ministers visit Christchurch. the Mayor, with representatives of the Chamber and other local bodies, urge the pushing on of the tunnel; that if necessary a strong deputation at tho proper time be sent to Wellington urging the authorities to up the completion.
