VALEDICTORY.

(From a’Correspondent.)

A most en joyable social took place in Humphreys on Friday evening, the occasion being a presentation and farewell to Miss M. Bruce, who has just severed her connection with the local school.

Mr Harris made the presentation, which consisted of a gold dagger brooch set with pearls, adding that Miss Bruce had always discharged her duties faithfully and well. He also voiced the sentiments of the residents by wishing her success in her new sphere. Mr Hewlett suitably responded on behalf of Miss Bruce and thanked the donors for their very generous gift. He said it. would serve to remind her of her brief sojourn in Humphreys. The gathering all joined in singing “ For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow.”

The music for the dance was supplied by Mrs Harcourt, extras being played by Mr Adams, upon whom the duties of M.C. also devolved.

Ample justice was done to the refreshments which were lavisdly handed around by a bevy of young ladies. During the evening songs were rendered by the following—Misses Bruce and Minty Messrs Harcourt, Harris, Agnew, Bradley aud Smith, The singing of Auld Lang Syne brought a most enjoyable evening to a close.
