NAPIER, Feb. (!. A special meeting of the Napier Borough Council as held to-night'' to consider charges hrongt- by the Napier fcramwaymeu against the Tramways manager, and it was decided to hold an ■inquiry iuto the whole matter. 1 The meeting was a stormy one, and .vas conducted partly in committee. On resuming in open Council the Mayor (Mr. H. Hill) moved that Or. A. McCarthy (deputy-mayor) be ; ; suspended.
Cr. McCarthy the Mayor a “I old woman.”
He then apologised, hut the Mayor refused to accept the apology. Cr. Mulvanah moved that the police be sent for, as Or. McCarthy, refused N> vacate his seat, and a policeman was lccordingly .summoned. .
Cr. McCarthy clayed the constable t<; cmoVe him.
The constable, however, assisted Cr, McCarthy from hi s chair.
The latter took the constable’s number. and threatened proceedings against both the constable and the Council. lie then left the room, and the meet ing terminated shortly afterwards.
