MEETING OF PROTESTS. (Our correspondent). A public meeting was held at Ross on Saturday night in connection iv ith the proposal of the Westland Charitable Aid Board to close the Totara Hospital. The Mayor (Mr J. Grimmond) presided, and the meeting was very unanimous in its objection to the proposed closing. It was resolved:

“That this public meeting of residents of Ross and the district emphatically protest against an attempt on the pal t of the Westland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board to close the Totara Hospital.”

Mr J. Grimmond was deputed to proceed to Wellington at once to interview the Hon Minister of Hospitals on Iho matter. „

From the tone of the meeting it was evident that the people of Ross do not intend to take the matter of the closing of their hospital lying down. •
