M. LITVINOFF’S RECEPTION. A meeting in connection with th Labour Conference 'accorded AI. Ln vinoff, the Russian Bolshevik repre sentative in London, a tremendous re ception. The latter denied that th. Bolsheviks have usurped power, Idee t f band of conspirators. If thej hai been a lot of adventurers they wmdc have been swept away long age by tin people. More history was made a Brest Litovsk than during the three rears of war. He did not believe the German people would continue to shed their blood for the benefit of capitalists. The Russian revolution was a revolution against war. If peace did result, from the Brest Litovsk negotiations a revo- • lution in Germany would come within the immediate possibility. RUSSIAN MURDER. / (Received this day at 1.30 p.m.) LONDON January 23. The Daily Chronicle’s Pctrograd correspondent says that L'enin, and the . Soviet condemned the murder of Shinlareff and Kokoshkin, and have issued an order for the arrest of the assassins. It is dear that the murders were not committed By order of the Central Bolhevik Government, which fears the consequences. Talk in ' the streets in connection with the murders was menacing towards tho Bolsheviks, owing to the popularity of ShingariefF in Petrograd and Kokoshkin in Moscow. 'The murders indicate that the Bolsheviks, leaders are no longer able tP control the passions of the mob, which they have aroused. The Morning Post’s correspondent
states it is rumoured that the other exministers in the fortress of Peter and ' Paul suffered the same fate as ShingarefF and Kohoshkin. i The food shortage is approaching the verge of an actual famine. Money is unprocurable by private persons ' and public bodies. Proletaarnan methods of raising money for current expenses are by robbery, blackmail, and felony.
