WELLINGTON, Jan. 18,
Consequent upon the cancellation of the proposed general leave for meinbers ol’ the Main Body of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, a number who wished to return to New Zealand ou urgent business or for family reasons, were invited to apply for permission. This was granted to a small group and others we ; re informed that 11 arrangements would probably he made to givo them furlough later on.
The first party recently arrived, and having been led to anticipate, two or three months’ furlough in the Dominion, they were disappointed at receiving only three weeks leave in N<*w Zealand .
The Returned Soldiers’ Association made enquiries on behalf of these men and it lias been discovered that the authorities in England omitted to send details of the conditions upon whieh the .members of the party had returned, consequently until this information was obtained, only flip regulation three weeks’ leave could be granted. The members of the party have since been notified that they should apply to the Director, Bn sc Records' for an extension of their leave sufficient to enable them to carry out the private matters for whieh they were allowed t° return.
