STRIKES IN AUSTRIA. > OF SERIOUS DIMENSIONS. (Received Yesterday at 11.10. p.m.) BERNE January 10. > The . “Nicu Frei Presse” says the strike movement is general throughout Lower Austria, Trieste and Trieste Valley. All war industries in Vienna and neighbourhood are shut . There arc ten thousand strikers at Wiernerou stadt. the locomotive, and munition factories at Roeth and aeroplanes works at Liehtenraek are closed. MUCH LOOTING. PARIS January 10.
The “Matin” says transport workers form the principal body of strikers. There was very 'serious rioting in Oratz arid Salzburg.
Over eighty stores, food and clothing shops and several restaurants in Vienna were pillaged. The police intervened and many on both sides wore injured. The gainson refused to march against the strikers. The whole of Bohemia is in a state of commotion. Soldiers fired on the rioters at Prague and Pilsen AUSTRIAN ARMY REVOLT. i A BIG ORDER TO SHOOT. (United Service Telegrams). 1 NEvTyORIv, Jan. 18. News from Petrograd states that wholesale dissatisfaction is spreading in the Austro-Germnn Army. Entire Austrian companies have been shot for sympathising with Russian socialism. Twenty-five thousand armed Germans have joined the fast-growing number of deserters.
Hindenburg is strenuously endeavour ing to put down insubordination, and has ordered 1000 to he shot for refusing to obey their officers. /
