The green light in Rangmito Channel (Auckland) went out suddenly a few nights' ago. and on examination it was found that a swarm of bees had settled on the lamp, and closed the ventilation hole, with the result that the pilot light was extinguished. The lamp wa s opened and re-lit. On a previous occasion, the lamp was extinguished by a swarm of flies.
A unique ceremony took place at the morning service at Toko Presbyterian Church on Sunday (says’ the Bruce Herald), when two sets of twins were baptised. This is the first occasion on record in the 60 years’ history of the elinrch of a similar event, and is more noteworthy in view of the pronounced disinclination by the majority <>f parents for public baptism.
Two men in a trap hud a sensational ; experience on the Rimufnkn hill, Thursday, says a Masterton correspondent. Their horse backed over the side nf the hill and fell a distance of between two and three hundred feet. Passers-by in cars had much difficulty in recovering (bo men. one of whom was severely injured a.ml conveyed toGreytown Hospital. The horse was killed outright. It is believed that the men. who had a marvellous escape from death, belonged to Featherston.
