TECHNICAL EDTJC AT I ON. (To the Editor). Sir, —Very little is known of the facilities offered by the Education Board for the technical education of youths in Westland.—'flic Engineering School at Greymouth to which every hoy who lias passed the sixth standard is admitted free and conveydd on the Railway free of charge is a most creditable institution, thanks largely to the enthusiasm of the instructor, Mr. F. G, Thomas A.AT.I. Modi E. 'file school is equipped with a steam engine and boiler. Lathes, drills, machine tools, and an electric generating plant, also aoj ouißun uoljsmpuoo pm.MpiT, purpose of demonstration. The machines and tools made by the hoys during the past- year are now being cxhiibted at the G-.1.C. Building Greymouth. They include forgo work welding turning, mechanical drawing and mechanical designs; also a 4 h.p. steam engine built at (he school by the boys. The training at this school is designed to prepare boys for, Ist ; Engineers to attain rank as engineers in charge of foundries, mines, or other work, or marine engineers.
2nd, Utility for those wishing a prac ticn 1 working Knowledge of steam and oil engines. The use of engineering tools the elements of mathematics. 3rd, Preparations for the public service entrance examination engineering branch. Every parent and every boy should seriously consider the great opportunity offered here for a sound start in life. As a parent of a pupil at the school J. cannot refrain from expressing my gratitude for the extraordinary interest the instructor takes in his pupils. Not content with the schedule hours he has aroused such interest in his class that they put in many extra hours studying actual working conditions, in tlie foundry on the Dredge Mawhora, and aboard trailers, to all of which places they are given free access through file courtesy of the managers • I am, etc., GEORGE A.
