A motion that Mr. Chapman be entrusted with te formation of a Cabinet was overwhelmingly defeated. ■The Cabinet meets to-day, but it is doubtful whether action will be taken until next week. A LAND SWINDLE. ADELAIDE, Jan. 5. The report of the Royal Commission inquiry into the purchase of land for soldiers and other purposes by the Yauglmn Govcrnenmt states that the evidence points to tint conclusion that Mr. A. W. Styles, then Chief Secretary, betrayed liis trust as a Minister and assisted the agent enabling the latter to make a profit of £4009. Referring to the proposed purchase of land for £2OO. 000, the Commission stated that the land was not worth £150,000 and that the Government Valuator wilfully put au untrue value on the land.
