GERMAN PRESS PLEASED.

A telegram from Berlin states that the whole of t he Liberal and Socialist Press is highly satisfied with the results of the Brest-Litovsk conference.

The pan-German Conservative newspapers are much embarrassed and don’t conceal their anger that the Government dared to assent to conditions so dangerous to the safety of the State.

The “Deutsche Zeitung” states: The Entente has won the greatest victory of the war.

POLYGAMY

Amsterdam, Dec 30. The “ Berliner Tageblatt,” discussing the question of polygamy, denied that the movement has official support, but admits the existence of polygamy, iustancing the Eden Colony, established solely for breeding noble specimens of the human race, and several other organisations, all desiring to improve the birth rata by rabbit-like multiplication.

LABOR CONFER KNOB.

London', Dec 30

At the Labor Food Conference, Air Levan, of the Dockers’ Union, said that when in England Mr Massey arranged with the Government that New Zealand mutton should be taken at one price from the factory and another from the ships. American meat agents in Australia and Now Zealand offered one and two shillings pei* head move for live cattle than the British Government paid for it dead. Although the Americans were apparently landing carcases at a loss of a shilling per head they obtained the right of release in this country ; also the light to handle Argentine meat, thus making threepence per pound on the cost. The Conference passed a resolution defending the School Feeding Act to be applied throughout- the country, and also that boots and clothes be supplied to needy children. They also protested against profiteering.

The “Central News” states that lion. Lloyd George when discussing war aims with tin* Labour Conferences ‘Executive explained that the conference’s proposals could only he discussed by tin* whole of the Allies. He emphasised the Allies agreement that peace was impossible while militarists ruled in Germany. The whole resources of the Allies and of America were being emu ecntratod for crushing Prussian militarism .
