At n meeting of the Borough Council the Postal Department Wellington, in replv to the Council’s request to have the Post Office kept open as formerly frcim 7 to 8 p.m. regretting the amount of business done did not warrant the calling on of an officer for attendanceThe Mayor moved and Councillor McClone seconded, that the Town Clerk write to the Department ,pointing out the inconvenience caused the public, and ask that the Department" reconsider its decision.—Carried. Councillor McDonald reported that the dav labour man lin'd cleared away
the slip on the zig-zag road; broken metal had been carted Into Main and Scddon Streets; footpaths had been gravelled where required and a general cleaning up for the holidays had been done.—Received and adopted. Receipt's £27 10s 2d. Accounts passed for payment £46 6s 9d. A general discussion, look place upon the financial position of the Counoil. and the Mayor moved and Mr. Roberts seconded, that the Finance Comjmittlee go through the list of outstanding rates and take action to have tlio same collected at once.—Carried.
The Mayor extended to the Council the season’s greetings, the Councillors reciprocating. This concluded the meet ing.
