PACKET DAY DECIDED.

ST. PATRICK’S DAY CELEBRATION FIXED.

There was only a fair attendance at the Town Hall last evening when the Mayor (Mr. Perry) presided in respect to holding a Packet Day for the benefit of the patriotic funds. Tho proposals were discussed chiefly by members of the Lady Liverpool and Red Cross organisations. A plea was put in for the Y.M.C.A. organisation, and it was pointed out that the Sick and Wounded Fund as being a continuous fund which will be required for long after the war, should participate, also, in the proceeds . It was resolved that the following four patriotic funds approved under the War Funds Act. he included in the scope of the benefit in the following proportions of the surplus funds available:—Westland Sick and Wounded Fund, 40 per cent; Red Cross, Lady Liverpool and Y.M.C.A., 20 per cent each.

Miss Maisie Reynolds was appointed Hon Secretary, and Mr. P. R. Stewart deputy Hon. Secretary, Mr. A. A. Andrewes Hon. Treasurer.

An Executive was set up as follows :—Sergt-Major Atkins, D.C.M., and Mr. T. Brook (representing the Sick and Wounded Fund) Mesdames Wood and A. 0. Reynolds (Red Cross), Mesdames Butler and Evans (Lady Liverpool) and two representatives appointed from the Churches’ Patriotic Union. The Mayor was appointed Chairman of the Executive. It was resolved to hold Packet Dnv on the celebration of St. Patrick’s Day (probably March 18th.) Tt was decided the Executive should meet next

Thursday afternoon to arrange details ! for the scheme of celebration. Tt was , resolved to aim at securing 10,000 gifts in order that a surplus of £SOO might lie" available for the funds to be benefittod. The Mayor pointed out it wa's to be a very suitable time to make a determined effort, to supplement funds urgently in need of all the help they could receive. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the Mayor for presiding.
