MINA CALDOW—NEXT TUESDAY,
The star performer at tlie Caledonian concert next Tuesday will lie Miss Caldow. On. Christmas l -Eve at 'Wellington, Miss Caldow sang in the “Messiah’’ and was most successful as recorded by the. local papers. Ihe New Zealand Times says:—Delightful indeed was the singing of the contralto solo music by Miss Mina Caldow, who proved an oratorio artist of the fiist quality. Nothing could he finer than her treatment of “0 Thou that Tellesf Good Tidings to Zion” and “He was Despised.” The “Dominion” said: —The artistic success of the evening was unquestionably achieved by Miss Minn Caldow, whoso sweet and even-toned contralto is nicely attuned to that air of devoutness that is so essential to success in oratorio. Her singing of “He Shall Food His Flock” was beautiful. It was quite evident that she felt the. lovely alliance of the words and music, and took pleasure in singing them with all the emotional -appeal that they convey. Again, in “He was Despised” Hiss Caldow reflected with rare art the poignant grief with which this surprisingly beautiful aria is impregnated. “0 Thou that Tellest Good Tidings to Zion” was also well sung.
