Marshal Haig reports: Hostile artillery is active in the neighbourhood of Vimy, Haitrencourt, and east of Ypres. Snow covers the whole front.
FRENCH REPORT.
LONDON, Dec. 26th,
A French communique states: On the right of the Meuse, despite a violent bombardment, the enemy’s double attack on our positions at Caurieres Wood failed.
HEAVILY CONCENTRATING.
ON THE WEST FRONT.
(Received, This Day at 8.50. a.m.> WASHINGTON December 17.
Semi-official advices state that Germany’s concentration on the West Front in eludes Austrians. Army officials expect attack on French positions, because the British are stronger held. They believe the Crown Prince will direct operations, endeavouring to recove/ the prestige lost at Verdun.
