POLLARD’S PICTURES.

“THE CHATTEL” - TO-NIGHT

The dainty English actress, Peggy Hyland, j andj) America’s greatest society actor of to-day, E. H. Sothern in the big Vitagraph Blue Ribbon feature “ The Chattel,” with a splendid supporting programme, forms the attraction at the Princess Theatre to-night by Pollard’s Pictures. “Is a wife a man’s plaything ?” is the theme of this powerful Vitagraph play. It is a clever and convincing story whose treatment of one of the problems of the day is delicately daring. A successful business man buys a beautiful bride and treats her as merely one of bis possessions, for, to use one of his own expressions, “ I must and will have the best, and for it I will pay any price; but—once the thing is mine, it is my own, to do with as 1. please, but none shall interfere.” Bht he finds the woman has a law as well, when pretty Peggy Hyland, who has revolted from the law of her rich husband, tells him “ The Chattel ” has come to buy her freedom. This is one of the dramatic moments in the play, and for the first time in his life the financier finds that he has failed to keep the thing he covets. The piece is lavishly staged and cleverly acted, the interest, being well sustained throughout. A b»g Keystone comedy, “ Haystacks and Steeples ” supports the star feature.
