There was glorious weather for the first day and fair attendance. The track was in splendid order, two West Ciast records being established during the afternoon, viz., Red Rook (2.10) hi the Cup and Merton (1.2) in the Electric Handicap. Unfortunately the fields on several occasions were small, and this had the effect of reduoing the totalisator turnover; hut taken right 1 through the racing was good. The Club’s Summer Meeting was held in glorious weather, the attendance equalling a record. Adjutant mot with some interference in the Cup and lost bis rider, .Tones, who had a miraculous escape, only receiving severe bruises and a shaking. 'The Stewards held an enquiry and cautioned Goldfinch, the rider of -Mullingar. The totalisator handled £80,985, as against £71,685 last year. SHORTHAND PLATE.—Lord Kenilworth 1, Silver Tongue 2, Glendower 3. Won comfortably by 11 lengths. Time 4.38 4-5.
GREAT NORTHERN FOAL STAKES.—Demagogue 1, Finmark 2, Pontoon 3. Won easily by 1) lengths. Time 1.14 4-5. ROBINSON HANDlCAP.—Fabriquette 1, Bellacity 2, Blue Cross 3. Won by three-quarters of a length. Time 1.28 3-5. AUCKLAND CUP, 2 miles.— Fiery Cross 1 Red Ribbon 2 Multiply 3 Fiery Cross and Itod Ribbon led practically all the way, the former winning by three-quarters of a length, with half a length between second and third. Cynic was fourth. Time 3.23 4-5.
