AUSTRALIAN COAL MINERS.
ANOTHER STRIKE THREATENED. Sydney, Dec 12. There is every possibility of another upheaval in the coalmining industry. When the big strike ended a few weeks ago, it was thought that the miners, restless and untrustworthy as they are, would keep the industry going for some time, by the very fact that, all their money was spent. There are still a considerable number of loyalists in the mines, who are cordially hated by the late strikers, and the men whom the managers refuse to reinstate, are, of course, the noisy, agitating gentlemen who are at the bottom of most of tlie trouble. They are outside the mines, but they are still members of the unions, and are bringing all possible pressure to bear on the regular miners. There is much talk of “ Prussianism ” and “ victimisation,” and the miners, persuaded that they have a thousand grievances, want only a little persuasion, find a little foolish leadership, to go on strike again at any time. There are those who say that a “ Yes ” victory in the Referendum will be the signal for the miners to “ down tools.” That is the temper of extreme labour to-ciay.
