AUSTRALIA'S REFERENDUM.
“NO” MAJORITY INCREASING. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. —COPYRIGHT.] SYDNEY, Dec. 21st. The “No” lead steadily increases. The totals now stand:— “No“ 861,397 <>y eS ” 687,819 Majority 163,578 While it is generally accepted that there is very little hope that that the present position will be. reversed, the figures are not accepted as final. It is roughtly estimated that tliree hundred thousand soldiers and absentees’ votes are still uncounted, wherefrom a big proportion of “Yes” votes are expected. Assuming that the reinforcements proposals is definitely defeated, speculation as to .the Government’.s next move is already rife. Although it is highly improbable that the Ministry will take action until after the holidays, there is a probability of a Federal eleetjon; but neither Mr. Hughes nor Ministers are prepared to make any comments.
