Tlie Committee met at 7.30 p.m. I’resent.—Messrs J. Lloyd (Chairman) S. «1. Preston, J. King, A. Aitken, \Y. Gooch, T. B. Hickson, A .Bennett, and D. Stevenson and A. N. Harrop (Hon. Secretary.) The minutes were read and confirmed and correspondence outward approved. IN AVAR 0 CORRESPONDENCE From Canterbury Education Board forwarding Air. Valentine’s report on inspection of secondary classes. —Received and considered highly, satisfactory. From same, stating Foreman was to report- on fencing asked for, and to prepare a sketch plan on building required for shelter sheds.—Received. From same stating Board could only grant half the cost of the water supply for the school.—Received. From’ Af iss Dixon, South Spit in reference to school cleaning.—Received, to be attended to. From same stating the average attendance for November was 23.4 out of roll of 25; that tlie grounds had ’ been fenced and were now in good order.— Received. From Hector reporting the' average attendance for November was 294.5 primary and 49.4 secondary, a total of 343.9 out of a roll number of 363; stating if this average was kept up for the next few clays Lhe position of Airs Dale as assistant teacor would ho assured for next year. Recommending the school dose on AA’ednesday the 19th inst. That Mr. Armitage a member of the Canterbury Board had visited the school with the Chairman and inspected’ the various requirements of the school; stating the periods on 'which teachers had been absent during the period; inviting com r mittee to the closing function on AVecine sd ay.—Received; Air. do Berry explained that it was necessary to keep up the average attendance for the year and that now the examinations were over the attendance wa's falling off.
It was resolved that the school close on AVednosdny afternoon. A number of matters in connection! with improvements to the school grounds were agreed upon. Tho visiting Committee (Alcssrs King and Bennett) reported on visit to school, recommending that tenders be invited for ploughing etc., the playing ground.—Received and adopted. Accounts amounting to £9 2s 6d t ,were passed for payment. It was resolved to allow the annual excursion to lapse owing to the unfavorable attitude of the Railway .Department in the. matter of excursion trains and concessions.
Mr. Hickson moved a vote of thanks to the High .School Board for agreeing to the request for a commercial instructor. Seconded by Mr. Gooch and carried.
