Sir James Pmlergast, ex-Chief Justice if New Zealand, celebrated his 91st birthday in Wellington on Monday last. Sir James, despite lii s age, still takes a keen interest in business affairs. I At a meeting of the Hokitika Fire j Board this afternoon, Mr. W. A. Fleming of Kokatabi, who recently returned invalided from the front, was appointed .acting night-watchman for a month to see if his health would enable him to carry out his duties.
