ITALIAN CAMPAIGN.
HEAVY ENEMY ATTACKS. ON ITALIAN FRONT. fAUSTRALIAN & N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION] & REUTER.] LONDON, Dec. 12. Italian official.—Between the Brenta and Piave, the Austrians yesterday violently attacked Col Della Beretta and Col Della Rio. The Germans in strong force, stormed Monte Pinonica and the defences of Cjilcina Valley. The struggle was continued all day. We temporarily abandoned a few positions, reoccupying nearly all during counter attacks. THE PIAVE LINE. PARIS December 12. The “Corriere Della Sera” states that the Austro-Germans will mako the Piave line secondary to the mountain front, where heavy reinforcements have been sent, to try to reach the plains and strike in the rear of the Piave defences. A German division have been transferred from Monte Paleson westward where they will have the advantage of the Val-Sugana railway connected with Southern Bavaria. The British have transformed M<mtollo into an impregnable rock fortress. ITALIAN SITUATION. (Received This Day at 11.25. a.m.) DOME, Dec. 13. Premier Orlando, addressing the Chambers, said the military situation was greatly improved j thanks to the resistance of the Italian troops. Italy was equally grateful to the glorious Anglo-French troops, confirming Allied solidarity. Government, woke promoting a scheme to ensure every soldier receiving £4O. Italian industry, commerce and agriculture is highly satisfactory.
