POLLARD’S PICTURES.

CLARA KIMBALL YOUNG

On next Thursday night at the Princess Theatre Pollards will screen a monster World’s picture, “The Rise of >Susan ” with-the beautiful actress, Clara Kimball Young in the leading role of Susan the poor shop girl, a character that allows plenty of scope for the favourite emotional performer to display her singular talent. The story is full of grim and beautiful tragedy and tells how fate had tricked Susan into- accepting the offer of a society dame to pose as the Countess Walrech for one night only. At a function die met Gordon Clavering, the most sought for society man-, and forgot all when he spoke words of love to her—forgot she was a penniless shop girl, and that the deception must be discovered, ior if she became his wife, he would be socially ruined. She only knew that a shop girl had won wliat society coveted. But the taunts of those who knew her secret drove .her to a confession before a host of horror stricken guests. Women and men who had fawned upon who had genuinely loved the striking girl, now turn from her with amazement and horror because she was not a member of society, and the man who had loved her for herself alohe is now called upon to decide between fear ot society and the love 'of a true and beautiful woman. Sensational scenes follow, the story ending with emotional situations of a most thrilling nature.
