The New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club will have a substantial cheque to pay to the Government over the recent meeting (says the Christchurch Press). The ordinary tax on totalisator investments amounts to £3,512 IS/11, the war tax on dividends to £3,067 19/1, and the tax on stakes to £IOO, making a total of £6,780 18/. The amusement tax has not been calculated yet, but it will probably be about £l5O. The annual report and balance sheet of the Auckland Jubilee Insth tute for the Blind, established in 1890, shows that the Institute at present accommodates'Bs pupils and workers, making a total of 250 pei’sons who have received the benefits of residence, with training, educational and technical, while there are many other blind persons who have been taught to read and write, and who are supplied "with books from the association’s Braille library.
