There was a fair attendance of members on the local Bowling Club’s green on Saturday three rinks being played, when some very fair form was shown by members. The green was found to be in very good order and was fairly fast. There will be practice each evening and on next Saturday afternoon the formal opening game will take place.

A sensational accident occurred at a 'Napier Hotel recently when a Maori named Tupara fell out of a top window on to the pavement below. Tupara, who is a man weighing about 15st. is believed to have walked through the window while asleep. and so met/ with what might- havof easily proved to be a fatal fall. The Paeroa loaded transhipments from the Defender, and sailed for Greymouth tins morning. From Greymouth the Paeroa proceeds to Karamea for a load of machinery for Greymouth, returning to Hokitika at the week end.

Wilson, for some time past an charge of the Anglican Church here, is under orders to proceed to Ross; from there he will work South Westland, as well as Otira in the north. This step is, I understand, occasioned hy the spiritual needs of the ever increasing population of the southern district, and the difficulty in providing ministers to take up the work of the Church owing to so many men being absent on active service. Tn tlie meantime the Church here will he sopplied. The wedding of Mr Walter Neame, eldest son of Mr Frank Neame, of the Christchurch Road, and Miss Marion Harris, fourth daughter of Mr .T. Harris, of the same locality, was celebrated at iSt. Patrick’s Chapel on Tuesday morning last. Mr. W. Tracey acted as best man and Miss Carrie Neame, sister of the bridegroom, acted as bridesmaid. The bride, who wore a pretty costume, with hat to match, was given away by her brother-in-law, Mr Yde, of Otira. After the marriage ceremony, which was performed by the T?ev. Father Creed, the party motored to their homo at Otira, carrying with them the good wishes of a large circle of friends.

There lias been a steady sale of tickets for the patriotic benefit at the Princess Theatre on Wednesday week, when the Ladies’ Musical Club will make its first public appearance. A programme of general excellence is promised. while the variety will enable all tastes to be satisfied. Miss D. Movnihan will supply some solo dance items, and Mr. Iron Wilson will render tenor songs, Mrs Wilson being the accompanist. The chorus work of the Club will be a special feature, while the evening’s entertainment- will he rounded off by a comedietta. “Acid Drops.” per formed by the Greymouth nurses who are kindly giving their services to help in the patriotic cause. Those intending to be present should book their seats in advance, which may now be done at Browne’s shop, Princess Theatre.
