Robert Chambers’ vivid story of , the secret service “The Girl Philippa,” featuring the charming Anita Stewart | and the five-act comedy"drama “ The j Girl of Yesterday,” a Vita Blue Ribbon work, with the demure Mary Pick ford and her brother Jack as the principal characters in the play cannot fail to impress picture lovers regarding this big double bill that is to be screened at the Princess Theatre by Pollards on next Monday night. “ The Girl Philippa ” is a play that has all the tingling excitement' and heart-catching throbs of Robert W. Chambers’ mighty novel. Anita Stewart, in the part of Chambers’ lieroiue, gives a splendid irnpersonation of the unfortunate princess 1 bullied, battered, and broken to the will of Wildresse. the master spy, who betrays France to the Huns, and uses the girl’s innocence as a lure to his victims. The story starts in the year j 1900, in a midnight raid on the palace j of a Balkan King. Emissaries of a. great Power slay the Royal pair and carry off the infant Crown Princess. Then the time shifts to i 91L Foreign agents steal plans of a new shell loaned to Great Britain by America, from the American 0 agent. Two English officers recover the plans. Wildresse, a master spy, sees a fitting beautiful spy help in Philippa, the Cashier of the Cabaret de Beuli. She betrays Wildresse to Warner, an American artist,and goes to him for refuge. She is recaptured by Wildresse, and is rescued by Warner from the house of Wildresse. in which place he (Warner) finds proof that Philippa is the Princess carried off from tlie Balkans. Meanwhile, war between France and Germany has'brokiiLout, and many scenes of grim War are portrayed on the screen. Seeking the full proofs of her birth, the girl Philippa is trapped in a cellar during fighting in the streets. The French recapture the village and the spy is shot. The picture is a big one, the story requiring qight acts to doit full justice.
