BIG FIRE AT AUCKLAND.

mo loss

[per PRESS ASSOCIATION. COPYRIGHT.] AUCKLAND, This* Day. J. D. Nathan’s seven storey warehouse was ablaze earlythis morning. Several thousand pounds of damage done.

IN L. D. NATHAN AND COY’S AUCKLAND, This* Day. A fire broke out on the top floor of L. 1). Nathan and Coy’s seven storey warehouse and store in High Street about one o’clock this, morning.

When first observed the flames had a good hold. The fire must have been in progress for some time. Owing to its situation practically in the centre of a dense block of buildings the burning structure was very difficult of access . The Fire Brigade attacked it from the sides. Preliminary operations occupied nearly half an hour. In the meantime Ifilie Tire. bYhzed fiercely inside for the entire length of the top storey, and before long had burst its way through the roof. Eventually the firemen began to get their task in hand and by two o’clock the outbreak was'well under control. Half an hour later it was completely extinguished. The fire did not find its way down through the stout wood floor. Very little damage was done by fire, but the stock, valued at many thousand pounds suffered extensively from water. Tile building and stock were insured for a, considerable sum in various offices.
