“DAILY NEWS” ATTACK

A STRIKING CRITICISM. (Received This Dav at. 10.15. m > "LONDON November 14.
The “Daily News” described Hon. Lloyd George’s speech as the .most lamentable blow struck during the wai. It was worth many victories to the enemy. If. it be a crime to encourage the enemy 1 and depress ourselves this is a crime without parallel. The News proceeds to charge Lloyd' George with levity in choosing a foreign luncheon, instead of the House of Commons for the speech. implicating his own nation. There are strong reasons for believing that his colleagues and even members of the war Cabinet, were not consulted, and they share the astonishment and the indignation with which the press and public received the speech which was a cruel, false, mischievous slander on Britain, and invites the Allies in disgust to condemn us. It also belittles our own sacrifices. The “News” quotes Hon. Lloyd George as saying that when we advance a kilometre to snatch a shattered village out oP the enemy’s cruel grip we shout with unfeigned joy. ” That was a traversty on the battle of the Scmme which saved France. It was Britain’s heroic effort that relieved. Verdun yet Hon. Lloyd George speaks thus to sunport his case that he had been thwarted, that he was right, and that others were wrong who had greater responsibility for the conduct of the war than Lloyd George, yet he now throws accusations at his colleagues that the creating of the War Council has a sinister aim. If the British armies surrendered to decisions of General Cadorna and Ins colleagues then General Haig and General Robertson were virtually deposed. The paper concludes —Lloyd George having made himself a Political Dictator at home, and now having the right to sit on the War Council purposes to make himself Military Dictator.
