THE ALLIES’ CONFERENCE.
' LLOYD GEORGE SPEAKS. ALLIED UNITY WANTED. fAUSTRALIAN & N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION] ' TARIS, Nov. 13th. Rt. Hon. Lloyd George, replying to M. Painleve, referred to the new War Council. They unfortunately had not had time to consult America and Russia before forming the council. The Italian disaster necessitated prompt action on the part of those Powers whose Forces were readily available to assist Italy. It wn,s imperative that all the Allies should be represented in order to ensure the success of the great enterprise in Italy, which was essential to victory. They had commenced to-obtain Russo- | American consent and co-operation. Let us be just, he said, to Russia, | which is suffering violent fever as the result of atrocious misgovernment. She I is winning her way to a steadier and cleaner health than ever she enjoyed. We should not forget what she dul in the early days of the war, when her heroic sacrifice helped to save France and Italy. What then was the reason the Allies to-day were not much further ' long the road to victory. The fault had been entirely in the absence of real unity in the Allied direction of the war. We all felt the need of it, but bad never yet achieved it, each country being left to its'own devices.
