APPEAL FOR FOURTH SON. Christchurch, Oct 27 ! “This is absolutely the first appeal of the kind that has come lie- I fore the board,” said Mr H. W.! Bishop, casting an eye down the I file attached to tlie military appeal of Peter O’Loughlin, railway employee, who appeared in company with his mother, before the Second Canterbury Military Service Board. “ Father and three brothers serving,” Mr Bishop continued with undisguised pleasure. “Extraordinary ! Wonderful ! A fine record. How old is your husband. (I will not ask how old you are) ? The mother replied that her husband was 55. “ And serving,” continued Mr Bishop, “ What in ?” “ The infantry.” “ in the New Zealand infantry?” “ Yes.” “ How on eartli did lie get there ?” commented Mr Bishop. “ A wonderful record. I congratulate you on it. You ought to be proud of it. You have three sous serving, and pou want this one with you ? All right, you are entitled to have him. Adjourned sine die.”
“ Thank you, sir,” said the mother.
