Among those who arrived by the overland service on Saturday night was Mrs. R. W. Wade, who for some years past lias been in South Africa, and later in Australia. Mrs. Wade, who will be well remembered here a' s a niece of the late Dr. Rosetti, is the guest of Miss Mandl. Mrs "Wade is receiving. si very cordial welcome from many former friends and acquaintances in the district.

A meeting of the Greymouth Jockey Club was held on Friday evening to ascertain if the Club would take advantage of the three days at New Year and forego racing in the autumn. After a discussion it was resolved to hold the three days’ racing in the New Year week. It was resolved that the Programme Committee frame a three days programme, the amount to be expended to be within £I7OO, and that one trotting race ea'ch day be included in same.

We regret to record the death ot another old pioneer of the district in the person of Mr. Michael Dwan of Hampden Street, which took plact last evening after an illness of about a week. Deceased who was a native of Comity Limerick, Ireland, and 82 years of age, came to New Zealand over sixty years ago following the various gold rushes till He settled down in Hokitika. He was married in Hokitlhu. He leaves a widow, and two of a family, Mrs. C. Carter of Grey Valley and Mr. Lawrence Dwan of Hokitika. General sympathy will be extended to the widow family, and relatives in their loss.

The double funeral of the late Mr. and Mrs .. Sullivan wholse deaths were report ed on Friday and Saturday, took place yesterday afternoon, and was attended most numerously. There were two hearses, three mourning coaches, and other vehicles, while a long line of town and country residents followed The members of the Hibernian Society preceded the cortege, the assemblage being one of the largest funerals seen here for some time. There was a crowded congregation at the service atSt. Mary’s Church, and a large concourse of people at the graveside. Itev. Father Clancy conducted the funeral rites, and gave a short- appropriate address within St. Mary’s Church. He spoke of the aged couple passing their long lives together, and in death they were not separated. Heath was always impressive, but in the present instance made the occasion a specially sad one. Both deceased had lived faithful lives, and left behind them worthy members in their family, whose duty it was to revere the members of those who had been such a pattern and example to follow in good living and honorable ways. There were many floral tributes placed on the grave. The family have received also many messages of sympathy from all part s of the district in the extremely sad occasion of fheir very sudden bereavement.
