ROSS NEWS.
RECENT CASUALTIES. (Our Own Correspondent.)
The casualty lists containing the names of many gallant heroes whom have fallen, are eagerly scanned by our loyal population. Many and earnest are the expressions of sadness and sorrow when the names of one with whom we have been associated with or know well are given. This occurrence was mournfully augmented to-day when our late Post Office Official, Tom Devaney was found to be included in the list. The dear lad was a well-known and favourable officer amongst us, omy a few short months back. Our feelings of heartfelt sympathy go out to his parents, who are well-and favourably known in our mining township, as former residents. ;
Two other names of gallant soldiers appears to our kindly recollection, jir. A. Talboti, !school-teacher Greymouth, and’Mr. P. Mclntyre, a wellcommercial traveller on the coast for many years. Tho memories of these men will live with us in years to come and’ ever he associated in our minds with that which stands for all that ■* noblest and best in human affaire.
