GREYMOUTH, Oct. 25,

A ship’s fireman, William Palmer, vra s charged under the War Regulations, with going aboard an. Overseas vessel without! the necessary permit-to-day. He was sentenced to one month by two J ustioes of the Peace.

Accused, against whom there was no evidence of suspicious conduct, stated lie had gone aboard to look for work. Ife was found in the men’s quarters by the Captain, and ordered to leave the ship. Palmer left his ship at Groymouth a few days ago, 'and sought; work ashore, but failed owing to the lack of a registration card, which lie had since procured. The Bench did not believe that accused had not known of the regulations, seeing that they were very severe in Australia, where the accused had last signed on.
