St. Mary’s euchre tournament held last evening, proved beyond doubt one of the most- successful and enjoyable held this season. The North Canterbury race meeting took place at Rangiora on Labour lni». lit was a very successful gathering, the weather being fine. The totialisatbr showed an increase of over £3,000 on that of the previous meeting. The attendance was large, the ordinary train service suiting the Christchurch sportsmen. Mr C. 11. The Grey mouth Jockey Club will race on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday of New Year week, and the Greymouitii Trotting Club, on Wednesday
and Friday of the .same week. i'i>« race meeting at Hokitika follows on the Tuesday and Wednesday of the following week. The lieofton Club will race on the Wednesday and Thursday of the. week proceeding the Greymouth meetings, that is on Boxing Day and the day following. On the same days there will be a totalizator trotting meeting and a sports meeting at Westport. These fixtures will make the Christmas and New Year holidays very busy. They will complete the racing and trotting sport on the Coast for the season, as owing to the curtailment of racing there will not be any racing at Easter or during the autumn, as heretofore. It is likely in consequence of this prohibition that there will be a large exodus to Canterbury for the Easter racing and trotting meetings.
