WELLINGTON, Oct 19. The police raided an alleged house of ill-fame at Island Bay last night, five women being arrested. To-day, at the Police Court, Rene Manley, Gertrude McEwan, Thelma Collier, -Mary -<iorgan and yera Malcolm were remanded on eharge s arising out of the raid. THEFTS ON MAORI. CHRISTCHURCH, Oct, 23. At the Police Court, this morning, Victor Fanning Eraser, charged with theft of jewellery from the Ma'ori, on the loth, was convicted and sentenced to f> months, to he cumulative upon a previous sentence of three months imposed at Lyttelton for other thefts on the Maori, in addition to a period of reformative treatment unsolved. A BOY KILLED. PALMERSTON N. October 23. Frank Fillers aged 14, was riding a bicycle with a- companion o n the handle bars, when they collided with a motor car. ViHlers was killed instantly. His companion escaped.
