The District Court martial sat here this morning and determined a charge of alleged desertion against a reservist Frank Joseph Carroll, who was called up in February and failed to respond, and was arrested at Kakia, North Auckland, two weeks ago. Carroll pleaded not guilty, and the prosecutor, Captain Baldwin appealed for and was granted an adjournment to call witnesses. FAILURE TO ENROL. EMPLOYER FALLS IN. CHRISTCHURCH, ot 2-1 At tile Magistrate’s (Court to-day Lenox Robert Wilson, was charged with employing an unenrolled first division reservist. Defendant pleaded ignorance that the man had not enrolled. The Magistrate said it wa s the duty of employers to ascertain that their employers were enrolled. A* in was the first case of the kind in this district be imposed with the minimum fine of £2O. SERVING UNDER AGE. HAMILTON, This Day. William Brown licensee of the Central Hotel Cambridge, was fined for allowing .the serving of a youth under - twenty-one. John Culver, the barman was fined £5 for serving the youth.

FINED FOR STRIKING. HAMILTON, This Day. W. J. Hogg, was fined £5 for striking at Horotui Freezing works in February. BACK HOME. MORE WOUNDED SOLDERS. AUCKLAND, This Day. A number of returned soldiers arrived this morning, invalided and wounded. There were 22 officers, 2 sisters and 226 men. There were no cot cases. Most of the wounded are from the Battles of Somme and Messines and Armentieres. THE MOSQUITO FLEET. DUNEDIN, This Day. The coastal steamer Kotare, after being laid up for about a aamth, obtained a crew to-day and .sailed for Timani and Wellington. She bad a full cargo loaded a fortnight ago.
