ACCOUNTANT ARRESTED

GISBORNE, October 18

As a sequel to the outbreak of fire in the office of the Gisborne Gas Coy early this morning the police investigations arc understood to have shown that the strong room door was wide open, and inside two ledgers were propped open with tarred sticks. ( One of the ledgers was recovered partly (burned. The safe was also flound open, and the contents disarranged and a fairly considerable sum oi money missing. Later Detective .vTcleod arrested the company’s accountant, Frank Parnell, who was brought before the Magistrate and chargedwith arson in wilfully setting the premises afire. The police were granted a remand for h week. Accused was admtted to bail self in £IOO and sureties for a like amount.
