Tub success of the school snorts on Wednesday should he an incentive to revive tho pastimes as an annual function. Field sports have suffered severely as a result of the war, and it- would he well in tho .interests of the rising generation to cultivate a healthy spirit of rivalry and emulation in those athletic. exercises inseparable with outdoor sports and games. The schools have done a tremendous amount of good in cultivating a magnificent spirit de corps among the seniors who excelled in sports. Britain owes a great deal to her sportsmen, for we know from history what the historic schools at home have done in the way of turning out good and true men who excelled in the field of play. When war’s alarms sounded three years ago, the public sehoods colleges and universities vied with other in filling the ranks of Kitchener’s first hundred thousand. There was a noble response from the men of learning, and their training on their sport’s fields quickly fitted them to take their places in the ranks of the Army and add glory and renown to the schools which sent them forth . Good healthy and clean sport*' is a necessary part of a life’s education, and it is well to find the local school taking up the necessary service so enthusiastically. Wednesday’s doing were well conducted from every point of view, and in no way more satisfactory than in the. fine sporting spirit of the competitors. That- is a<s it should he. and long may the spirit flourish.
