THE TANKS BETRAYED

Matah'ari, the beautiful Dutch dancer, was shot this morning for espionage. She betrayed ' the tanks to Germany proceeding the battle of the Somme. Whale fulfilling a dancing engagement in Paris she fascinated an English officer wearing the Dragon Badge of the Tank Corps. Tiler were frequently seen together in cafes. In May 1916 she applied for a permit to visit a certain" port stating that she was the fiance of a’ British Officer who was wounded, and she wished to marry nttn before he died. She arrived simultaneously with the first consignment of tanks from England and stayed a week having the free rim of the port-. A' month later she returned to Paris ana obtained a passport for San Sebastian. In Spain she was seen in the company of a' suspected German agent. During the Somme offensive the tanks were opposed by a new German gun expressly made for service against the tanks. German prisoners admitted that the .tanks wer6 betrayed.
